Either way, if its a Mercedes AMG you want, talk to me or AMG tech. He’s an AMG tech (insert captain obvious) and I have experience with ownership of 2 AMGs, one of which was a “cheap” buy, for good reason.

I thought about one in March of this year, until I looked into consumables and it was way more than my E90. Maybe if I land another oil job and it booms again, then I might seriously consider one. What AMGs have you owned?

08 S63 and 12 CL63.
both use AMG’s more populous engines, the M156 (6.3L NA) found in the CLK63, C63, CL63 07 - 11, S63 07 - 11, SL63 09 - 12, and E63 08 - 11; and the M157 (5.5L turbo) found in the E63 12+, S63 11+, CL63 11+, G63 13+, CLS63 12+, ML63 12+, GL63 12+, SL63 13+, and likely a few more.
I failed to do my research on the S so I learned through failure (quite literally) and then did ample research on the CL before hand.

Oh, I remember you had made a couple posts about your “cheap” S63.
I thought about getting an E39 M5, then I realized while the purchase price might be cheap, it was going to be 10 years old and would need a shit ton of expensive work, so I got a low mileage, had 15.5k on it when I got it, E90 M3 instead.

Great idea. Assuming it has excellent service history. I would be wary of it if the head bolts haven’t been replaced and I would look for one that’s had the cams and lifters replaced too. Or just get a good warranty for it.

Actually I do have a question, something that I’ve been wondering for awhile. Is it possible to swap the “luxury grill” onto the C63 and put a hood ornament on it? I’ve had a want for a Benz with a hood ornament and was disappointed that Mercedes never at least offered the C63 with one as an option.

Hood ornament for sure. I suspect the grill should be fine as well but have never tried. The mounting appears top be the same, the real question is whether the AMG bumper and hood are different enough that it wouldn’t fit.

I think they might be different, I think it looks kinda tacky to have both the large star on the front and the hood ornament.
